Doyin (pronounced Doy-en) is a Yoruba word meaning “to sweeten or pour honey”.

Who we are: Doyin AfroLatin Dance Company is a performing arts team connected by our love for dance, music and the arts. Membership requires audition and is open to any student of Adenuga Dance & Wellness who is up for the challenge of broadening and diversifying their dance skills and to the goal excel in the experience of being performer.

What we do: As a performing arts team, we provide dance performances, as well as dance instruction in Salsa, Bachata, Cha-Cha, AfroCuban Rumba and Folkloric dance, as well as West African dance styles, under the direction of Aliya Adenuga and Adenuga Dance & Wellness; and the coordination of Kellye Hawkins.

Why we do it: We believe that the African diaspora throughout Latin America demonstrates a rich and beautiful fusion of cultures. We aim to celebrate, promote and share our love of these cultures through the use of music, dance and performance art. Our ultimate goal is to build a community of dancers who love it too!

Aliya Adenuga

Aliya (affectionately known as “Li”) is the Team Director, Choreographer and Team Dancer with Doyin Dance. Li has over 16 combined years of dance experience and has trained in West African and Afro-Latin social and folkloric dances such as Salsa, Bachata, Cha-Cha, AfroCuban Rumba and Orisha. Li describes her overall style as “groovy” and loves to play with her musicality to really bring the music to life when she dances. Li loves to highlight the joy she feels when she is dancing, and aims to share that joy with her partner when she is social dancing, and her audience whenever she is performing.

Kellye Hawkins

Kellye is the Team Coordinator and one of the Team Dancers at Doyin Dance. Kellye has been dancing for 21 years and has trained in Salsa (on1), Mambo Cha-Cha, Bachata, Bomba, AfroCuban Rumba and Orisha dances. Kellye prides herself on her ability to truly connect and groove when she dances, and aims to never take herself too seriously. Kellye considers dance to be her escape and a tool to use for enjoyment, healing and emotional release. Needless to say, dancing with Kellye is ALWAYS a good time!

Kyra Williams

Kyra is one of the Instructors at Doyin Dance Company. Kyra has over 10 years of training, with a foundation rooted in Ballet, Jazz, West African and African American Spiritual Dance. Kyra describes her style as both fluid and sharp, and states that she loves being able to use dance as a way to release emotions without using words.
